Cinematical has just received this exclusive poster for the film The Open Road, starring Justin Timberlake and Jeff Bridges. The film follows a minor league baseball player (Timberlake) who, along with his girlfriend (Kate Mara), travel to reunite with his estranged father (Bridges) and bring his family back together to help support his sick mother (Mary Steenburgen). Lyle Lovett and Harry Dean Stanton also star.
Written and directed by Michael Meredith, we first reported on this dramedy wayyy back in 2007, and again in 2008 when Timberlake and Bridges signed on. It's hard to argue against this cast -- Bridges always brings his quirky A-game, and Timberlake, in my opinion, is only a year or so away from really landing some big roles. But it's these smaller flicks that will convince people of Timberlake's on-screen talent; the ones that strip away his celebrity and expose a little more substance. Definitely seems like one you should seek out when it hits theaters on August 28.

Land of the Lost amounts to a $100 million bet that Will Ferrell’s brand of sketch comedy can survive contact with the day-glo sludge Sid & Marty Krofft purveyed. And vice versa. His shtick induces a few chuckles and the special effects and production design are worthy, but the two sensibilities never gel, rendering the movie not quite funny, strange or exciting enough. Ferrell’s bank-ability will be tested. Those who fondly recall Land of the Lost’s initial television run (1974-1977) may resist exposing their spawn to the ribald overlay. That leaves teens and laxly supervised pre-teens, so ka-ching! is still possible.

A high gloss, studio Romcom with clichéd jokes and conflicts that are as uncontroversial as they are predictable, The Proposal is rooted in the most classical of conventions and still finds ways to be surprisingly enchanting. Most credit should go to the criminally underappreciated Sandra Bullock and the reliably disarming Ryan Reynolds. Occasional beauty can be found in the direction of Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses, Step Up), which is dominantly standard but features a few subtle and affective flourishes. Numbers should be moderate to good, as those who attend will be pleased and likely offer good word of mouth.
